John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Genesis 1:1-4

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and the darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”, and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.

The Word is Jesus, everything was made through Him. Life is in Him, and that life is our light. He is light. He shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot comprehend Him. In the beginning the earth was filled with darkness, and God said, “Let there be light”. This light is Jesus, and God separated light from darkness.

Jesus is the light of this world, and when someone is in darkness, we cannot comprehend Him. It is through light that we can truly know and see Him, and if everything was made through light, then we were made by light. This means that our true origin comes from light, hence we can go back to our true being and become from the light.

John 8:12

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life”.

Here Jesus says, if you follow me, you will not be in darkness, but IN light. IN HIM and HIM IN US!

John 17:21

That they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me.

It is Jesus’ desire to be one with Him, but we can only achieve it by walking in light.

Genesis 3:6

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.

Here we see the fall of both Adam and Eve, and in this fall they let darkness in them. This means that light nor life was in them anymore, and they stopped being one with Him. Eventually this led them to be expelled from the Garden of Eden, or the presence of the Lord, because light and darkness can’t be united.

When we come to the point of ethics in the Bible, we are talking about a divine ethics. Not the type of ethics that you and I know or were taught, but a totally different type ethics. The ethics of God, or the divine ethics, if we can call it like that, is to either be in light or in darkness. You cannot call yourself a son of God, if you are not walking in light. Walking in light means to walk in holiness, and holiness is the unity of our spirit with the Spirit of God.

Romans 1:4

Who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord

It is not easy to become a son of God, but it’s worth it. It may take a whole lifetime or many years to become one, but once you are, the satisfaction is amazing. It is a process in which we are transformed into being like Him, and reformed into His way of thinking.

The ethics that God has established is to be IN light, and to stay away from darkness.

1 John 1:5

This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
